The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. — Socrates

Yes, that is how I started my journey towards PSM 2. Learning and re-learning the same things and validating understanding through reliable sources.

Professional Scrum Master 2 certification provided by Scrum.org and is considered to be the advanced level. I prefer to gain this badge through extensive reading and from experience. Hope it would help you in achieving your badge. Listing down the sources, I was following during my preparation:

  1. Read Scrum Guide — Yes, read it thoroughly line by line. From my experience the more you read Scrum guide the more you gain understanding and confidence in resolving some myths. As scrum is so popular nowadays that it has various versions in Agile communities, so I suggest validate your understanding by reading it thoroughly.
  2. Book Scrum- The Pocket Guide by Gunther Verheyen — I have to admit that the way he has understood Scrum nobody has done it and it reflects in his book. Kindly read the book from start to end, I enjoyed a lot and it has cleared my myths and strengthen my understanding.
  3. Book Scrum Insights for Practitioners by Hiren Doshi — This book is a true companion to the Scrum guide. From the exam point of view, it is really helpful and would boost your knowledge. It has a lot of practical use cases and examples which definitely add value to the Scrum Guide.
  4. Read Scrum Master Learning path — I recommend reading this Scrum Master learning path to understand Scrum as it is from scrum.org point of view. This learning path has a set of competencies a Scrum practitioner should know.
  5. Blogs from The Liberators Barry Overeem and Christiaan Verwijs — I must say that I am a big fan of their writings and podcasts. Blogs are insightful on the use of Scrum and Agile.
  6. Scrum.org Open Assessment — The open assessments from Scrum.org are helpful specifically Professional Scrum Product Owner and Professional Scrum Master. You would get some direct questions in PSM 2.
  7. Your Experience — Before appearing for certification gain experience, questions are more from real-time.
  8. Scrum.org Training (optional)— Though I prefer to obtain this through experience and learning, scrum.org also provides dedicated training on this certification. Kindly check at Scrum.org.

The Day:

  • It is a 90mins exam for 30 questions. Honestly, this is enough time for 30 questions.
  • Have a paper and pen to note down the questions you would like to revisit later. There is also an option of bookmarking the questions. I prefer the old style of using a pen and paper.
  • Read the questions carefully, I used to do mistakes here.
  • Apply Scrum guide knowledge, do not overthink.

Conclusion:

I enjoy this journey through learning many things not just Agile and Scrum but also lessons on Personal attributes. From my point of view, A certificate is not the end, it is the beginning of the next discovery. So keep learning and enjoy your journey.

I wish you good luck.
